The Main-Transit Fire Department is a 100% volunteer organization and has been proudly serving the town of Amherst since 1936 in emergency medical, fire and motor vehicle rescue services. The Main-Transit Fire Department serves a district of approximately 5.2 square miles and work with many other neighboring departments when Mutual Aid is needed.

The Main-Transit Fire Department consists of a membership of over 85 Active Members, a Ladies Auxiliary, an Exempt Association, and a Junior Firefighter program. All active members are required to have passed New York State certified courses in firefighting, and maintain First Aid certifications.
